International Partner Lead Academic: Professor Thomas Gries

With more than 2,000 new enrollees and 63 professorships the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University is one of the biggest faculties of mechanical engineering in Europe.

The Faculty is divided into multiple Research Institutes. ITA – Institute of Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen University and Chair for Textile Machinery is headed by Univ. Prof. Dr.-Ing Thomas Gries. Research within textile technology focuses on: fiber materials, Textile Preforms and composites, technical textiles, medical textiles, textile production technology, textile testing, textile applications, quality management and simulation. Research in composites also takes place in the IKV – Institute of Plastics Processing in Industry and the Skilled Crafts, the SLA – Institute of Structural Mechanics and Lightweight Design, and the LTM – Chair of Engineering Mechanics (Crash and impact behaviour of composite structures, and Design and construction of composite structures).
