Advanced Engineering Show 2017: Hub to Showcase Outputs and Future Direction…

Published: 24th October 2017

The EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub (The Hub) will be exhibiting and speaking at Advanced Engineering 2017.

Visitors to the show will be able to visit The Hub stand where it will be displaying the latest outputs from its three core projects:

  • New manufacturing techniques for optimised fibre architectures,
  • Manufacturing for structural applications of multifunctional composites, and
  • Technologies framework for automated dry fibre placement.

Visitors are also invited to attend Open Forum 2 at 10 am on Day 1 where members of the team will be introducing The Hub and discussing its outputs and future direction. Speakers and topics are:

  • Professor Andrew Long, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Hub Director – Introduction to the EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub;
  • Dr Tom Turner, Associate Professor in Composites Manufacturing and Hub Deputy Director – Technologies Framework for Automated Dry Fibre Placement (ADFP);
  • Professor Prasad Potluri, Professor of Robotics and Textile Composites – New Manufacturing Techniques for Optimised Fibre Architectures;
  • Professor Ivana Partridge, Director of EPSRC Industrial Doctorate Centre in Composites Manufacture – New Generation of Leaders in Composites Manufacture; and
  • Dr Rob Backhouse, Engineering Specialist and Global Process Owner (Polymer Composites), Rolls Royce – Industry Viewpoint on Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub.

Research staff will be available throughout the show to discuss any of the above topics or talks, as well as the open Feasibility Study call for proposals which will close on the 30 November.

The EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub was launched in January 2017 and is a £10.3 million investment to expand the national research effort towards delivering a step change in the production of polymer matrix composites, whilst training the next generation of composite engineers.

EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub will exhibit on Stand O171 at Advanced Engineering 2017 on 1-2 November in Birmingham, UK.
