Mike Hinton

Professor Mike Hinton is the Chair of the Hub’s Advisory Board. He is the Director of Research and Technology Partnerships for the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, providing the focal point for strategic engagements with prospective and established R&T partnering organisations. Mike has over 40 years of experience in defence, security, aerospace and oil & gas, derived from a variety of roles in the Ministry of Defence, DERA, QinetiQ and latterly at the National Composites Centre (one of the HVMC centres). He has worked across the full TRL1-9 spectrum, from conducting fundamental research in composite failure mechanics (with many highly cited publications), developing equipment into service use, developing/licensing patents and resolving operational issues in the field. Mike continues to collaborate widely, both internationally and nationally, with academia, industry, RTO's and governments and is a visiting professor at the University of Nottingham.
