James Kratz

Dr James Kratz is a Lecturer in Materials Engineering at the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS). He is currently investigating advanced manufacturing processes in the FCMR Hub ‘Layer-by-Layer Curing’ project, material properties and variability in the EPSRC platform grant ‘SIMulation of new manufacturing PROCesseS’ (SIMPROCS), and in-process sensing as an EPSRC ‘Researcher in Residency’ at the NCC one day per week.  James was awarded his PhD from McGill University in 2013, working on ‘Out-of-Autoclave Prepreg Processing of Honeycomb Sandwich Structures’ under the supervision of Prof Pascal Hubert. James continued to work on void development in ‘Out-of-Autoclave Prepreg Technology’ as a Research Associate in ACCIS from 2013 to 2017, in addition to working on tufting ‘Through-Thickness Reinforcement’, and finally thermal property characterisation as part of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Composites (CIMComp) Defect Generation (DefGen) project.

James is also Co-Investigator on a recently awarded Hub funded Core project "Layer by Layer", which follows the success of the Hub funded Feasibility Study "Layer by Layer".
