The Institute for Materials and Processes at the University of Edinburgh brings together researchers in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and materials science. The Institute’s vision is to produce world-class research to advance engineering applications of materials and processes, and to provide a high-quality and creative research environment. Research tackles important societal challenges ranging from reducing greenhouse gas emissions, to sustainable energy, clean water, and healthcare. The Institute develops and integrates experimental, computational, and theoretical methods to shed light on the underlying science and to engineer solutions for these challenges. Research themes include systems modelling, and materials design, processing and characterisation.
The academic team members are Dr Dipa Roy, Professor Conchur O’Bradaigh, and Professor Vasileios Koutsos. The team’s research interests focus on lightweight fibre-reinforced polymer composites, used in transport, energy generation and infrastructure.
