HyFiSyn school and conference: 13 - 16 September 2021

The HyFiSyn school brings together leading experts and provides an overview of the field of composites. It is primarily aimed at junior researchers who want to learn more about the state-of-the-art in mechanical and functional properties of fibre-reinforced composites. The HyFiSyn conference covers all aspects of mechanical and functional (self-healing, structural power composites, etc.) properties of composites, and is hence much broader than just fibre-hybrid composites.

Manufacturing for Structural Applications of Multifunctional Composites Webinar: 23 September 2021, 14:00

The focus of the webinar will be on the Hub’s Work Stream 3 activities investigating the design and manufacturing issues associated with multifunctional composites, with particular focus on structural supercapacitors. These multifunctional materials simultaneously store (and deliver) electrical energy whilst carrying mechanical loads. Such multifunctional materials offer a completely different approach to using composites in transport and mobile electronics, and have the potential to provide a step change in weight and volume driven designs.

Hub Announces Open Day October 19th 2021 - Virtual Online

Open Day 2020

The EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub has announced its annual Open Day on Tuesday 19 October 2021. This free-to-attend event will be a virtual event, supported by the University of Edinburgh who are hosting the International Conference on Manufacturing of Advanced Composites (ICMAC), 20-21 October 2021.

The Hub are delighted to announce two keynote speakers for the event, Dr Adrian Gill from Vestas Wind Systems, and Dr Isabelle Paris from Bombardier Aviation. The programme will cover a range of Hub projects and provide Hub partners with the opportunity to highlight research progress to date, and showcase project outputs. Current PhD students will present their high quality and diverse composites research through 2minute elevator pitches in a Quick Fire session.

The Open day will be supported by SAMPE UK and Ireland, who will host a Young Engineers Competition, where students will be invited to participate in a ‘Design and Make’ Competition which will be judged on the day and prizes awarded to the winning team.

The event will be a great opportunity for those across the composites manufacturing supply chain to learn more about the Hub’s latest research and how they can contribute to the Hub’s development and expansion.
